Summary | A Greek research team, active in the purification of natural water & industrial wastewater that contains heavy metals, seeks industrial partners interested in applying its method, e.g. industrial players in steel manufacturing, paints, textiles and others detailed below. The technology provides a cheaper, easier and highly efficient means of removing heavy metals. The research team seeks collaborators through a commercial agreement with technical cooperation or a research cooperation agreement. |
Description of the offer | Chromium compounds are widely used in industrial activities such as metal surface finishing, steel production, leather tanning, paint manufacturing, electric and electronic components, and pulp processing. Apart from its mainly anthropogenic formation, Cr(VI) can naturally occur through Cr(III) oxidation in ground and surface waters. Several treatment processes such as chemical reduction, precipitation, ion exchange, membrane separation and adsorption have been applied to remove Cr(VI) from wastewater. During the last decade attention has been given to treatment processes involving adsorption of Cr(VI) on low-cost materials. The Greek university’s laboratory team has developed research activities regarding environmental pollution, and specifically the purification of natural water and industrial wastewater that contains heavy metals. As far as the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions is concerned, the team has investigated the performance of modified aluminosilicate minerals (zeolite, bentonite, vermiculite and attapulgite). Moreover, other paramaters have been taken into consideration, such as the concentration and pH of HDTMA-Br (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide) solutions used for the modification of minerals, the pH of the adsorption solution, the type and the concentration of the modified mineral, the initial concentration of Cr(VI), and the adsorption time of chromate on modified minerals. The study has shown that mineral modification using HDTMABr can be used to treat aqueous solutions contaminated with hexavalent chromium. The research team is looking to collaborate with the industries of steel manufacturing, paints, leather and others detailed below who wish to adopt the technology offered through a commercial agreement with technical assistance, or to further develop the technology through a research cooperation agreement. |
Advantages and Innovations | The purification method of natural and industrial waste water which contains heavy metals can be used to treat aqueous solutions contaminated with hexavalent chromium. The method also makes minerals available as raw materials. Furthermore, it is low cost, highly efficient, simple to operate and helps industries to comply with relevant laws and standards. |
